IMAAN KASHIM

Founder and Director

Tutti came about from a simple wish to share my passion for classical music with others.

I began playing the violin at the age of five and have been deeply involved with music making ever since.  I am now fifteen, a student of the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCM JD) where I study violin with Professor Viktoria Grigoreva alongside classical guitar, composition and conducting.

Musical life can be very busy and over recent years I have been fortunate enough to have had some truly phenomenal experiences.  Currently I am a Junior Artist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra with whom I receive mentorship and masterclasses in addition to joining them in outreach work and performances. In summer 2019 I was invited to be part of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s European youth orchestra 'RCO Young’ where I played under the baton of the renowned conductor Pablo Heras-Casado and with virtuoso violinist Julian Rachlin, working alongside the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in a series of concerts, masterclasses and chamber music recitals in Europe.  I lead Surrey County Youth Orchestra and play with the award winning Chineke! Junior Orchestra with whom I performed the Bach double violin concerto at Kensington Palace in 2018.  For many years I was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra of GB and it was a huge privilege to have led their Main Orchestra in 2018, when I also had the pleasure of working with Nicola Benedetti.

In recent years, I have been invited to perform at the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie by the American Festival of Fine Arts, in addition to being selected as finalist for Woking Young Musician, Silk Street Sinfonia’s Senior Concerto Competition, the Haslemere String Competition and the RCM JD Marjorie Humby Competition as well as being highly commended in the Junior Concerto Competition at the RCM JD.

I often play with my brother Jamaal, a harpist; we are coached by Daphne Boden at the RCM JD.    Together we are recipients of many prizes, including 2019 Junior Musician Award from the Lord Mayor of the City of London and Chamber Musician of the Year at Woking Music Festival. We have performed for the Swedish Ambassador at his London residence, the graduation ceremony of the Royal College of Music and with the National Youth Harp Orchestra of Great Britain amongst others.  We are both quite well known in our local town where we often busk together raising money for charity, bringing classical music and our respective instruments to a wider audience.   We were extremely excited when we were given the opportunity to play at the Formula 1 Championship Weekend in Abu Dhabi recently. We were then invited to perform and be interviewed live on three radio shows - it was a busy trip!

Over the years I have been very lucky to have performed at many beautiful venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the Concertgebouw, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Menuhin Hall, Flagey and Birmingham Symphony Hall.  I also performed alongside Garsington Opera’s orchestra in Roxanna Panufnik’s 2017 opera, ‘Silver Birch’ and was featured by Classic FM when busking, which had over 43,000 views – that was very exciting, and unexpected!

Outside of music I practised women’s artistic gymnastics for many years.  Now I bring those skills to circus training, performing on pieces such as trapeze, tightrope, silks and Chinese poles.  I have been home educated throughout my life.
